I had the great pleasure of trying many different varieties of the Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt from Stonyfield Farm. The texture was thick, smooth and creamy while the taste was naturally sweet and delicious. I am not usually a yogurt fan but because of the very creamy, thick texture of this yogurt I really liked it. My son was smitten at first bite! 🙂 He would eat two cartons within a 5 minute period. He couldn’t get enough!
I loved that I could so easily use the plain flavor as a sour cream replacement in many recipes. I made a tangy cream sauce to top my gluten-free noodles and accompany my homemade meatballs. It was a great way to use the yogurt when I didn’t have sour cream. There are endless possibilities for cooking with this great product. I can’t wait to try more recipes!
I really love this company for all they believe in and stand for. Oikos is the first certified-organic Greek yogurt on the market. Centuries ago, when Greek shepherds made yogurt, everything was organic; rBST and pesticides didn’t exist, so today, Stonyfield Farm makes their authentic, strained Greek yogurt just as they did years ago: using pure, wholesome ingredients from nature. Their organic ingredients are produced without the use of antibiotics, artificial growth hormones, genetically modified organisms, chemical fertilizers, or toxic and persistent pesticides. How could we not all love that!
Some great things I learned about this product were that Greek yogurt has an incredibly rich and creamy texture, about twice the protein of regular yogurt, less lactose, and fewer carbs. Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt has 0% fat and just 80 calories per serving. The kicker is, you would never know! The taste it excellent, I would have never guessed it was fat-free. For those looking for a great tasting yogurt that has the texture of creamy, full-fat yogurt but without the actual fat grams, you have found the perfect yogurt!
“We make our authentic Greek yogurt with a centuries-old straining method that removes the whey (liquid) from the yogurt. Called yiaourti in Greece, Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt, and its production requires about three times the milk used to make regular yogurt. We use fresh, delicious organic milk from family farms. Our organic fruits are hand-picked for the highest quality and prepared the same day to retain the freshest flavor. And we use five live active cultures: S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. acidophilus, Bifidus, and L. casei.
All of our yogurts, smoothies, and soy yogurts, except for our YoBaby Plus Fruit & Cereal, are certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO). Our GFCO certification (and the symbol on our packages) tells those with gluten intolerance (celiac disease) that they can enjoy our yogurt without worry. All of our products are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union, a kosher-certification agency internationally known for its high standards. Our products carry the OU-D certification symbol (the “D” stands for “dairy”). Our products aren’t certified kosher for Passover, because this would require a change to our cultures and other ingredients, which would alter flavor, texture, and shelf life.“
This was taken from the Stonyfield Farm website so you could all see what exactly was said about the products being gluten-free, and kosher.
I know I loved this great yogurt and can imagine you will too…
