This Christmas in July tradition is one we have been doing for years. In fact, I was even doing it before I had kids in a round about way. I just couldn’t wait all the way from December to December for celebrating the most wonderful time of year. I would turn on Christmas music in July when I just couldn’t handle it anymore and this would always give me this Christmas “fix” that I needed. Now with my kids, I still get Christmas antsy every July so we take one whole day to celebrate Christmas in July. We turn the holiday tunes on from the moment we wake up, we get our Christmas jammies on, read some fun books and then we watch our favorite Christmas movie. Christmas in July wouldn’t be complete without fresh baked gingerbread shaped sugar cookies (gluten-free of course bc mama wants them too), hot cocoa and some “smells of the season”. These fragrant gingerbread ornaments are another great activity that also gets you those yummy holiday smells. If you are looking for a Christmas cookie that is a bit untraditional but still SO fun, these reindeer peanut butter cookies are it. The kids will have a blast making them! I definitely think that the kids favorite part of Christmas in July is decorating the cookies. They love dumping a full bottle of red, green and white sprinkles on their cookies then gobbling them up. Of course, they always ask mama to try a bite and I just can’t resist how proud they are of their creation so I take a big, crunchy bite and enjoy every moment of it. Daddy always thinks it is pretty funny when we do this celebration because its like pulling teeth just to get him to celebrate in December! Let’s just say that Christmas in July ain’t his thang. 😉
This year we even decided to color some cute little Christmas pictures to make a homemade piñata. The kids wanted to do something active (of course right, they ARE boys after all) so we thought this would be a great way to incorporate it into our Christmas in July celebrations.
So do you guys have any crazy traditions like this? If so, I would love to hear them. Merry Christmas in July to all of you!
