This drab to fab Christmas tree shows you how to make a gorgeous holiday display on a dime.
Have you got a tree you are thinking of throwing out? Hold on just a minute! We can show you how to repurpose it to make a gorgeous new Christmas tree.
I have been SO excited to share this awesome drab to fab Christmas tree with you guys since LAST year! My sister-in-law found an incredible 9ft. Christmas tree for me on 90% off clearance after Christmas 2014 so last year we had a new beautiful tree. This meant that my old tree, which was looking pretty haggard, was going to get the boot.
Me being the ultimate repurposing girl, I decided that there had to be another use for the first tree my hubby and I bought. Did I also mention that I am very nostalgic? I got to thinking that with a little TLC, our sad little tree could be beautiful once again. I started by painting the edges of the branches with white paint. Next, I then glued on some artificial snow flakes to give it a bit of a flocked look.
There was a definite need to fill the tree since there were lots of “bald” spots from years of being put up, taken down and stored. Since I already have a fun family tree with the kids ornaments, I wanted to do a super pretty and classic Christmas tree. I picked up some white and red poinsettia picks half off at Michaels as well as some more on a dime at an estate sale. I even got big white doves for cheap at the same estate sale. For the plaid dressed angel topper, I found a steal of a deal on her, brand new, at the thrift store.
The truth is that you can easily do a drab to fab Christmas tree yourself with a bit of imagination. For the things you can only find brand new, I recommend using coupons. The 50% off ones Michaels sends or their 40% entire purchase coupon are great. Thrift stores and yard sales are another great place to find Christmas picks, ribbon and ornaments.
Whatever your theme, be sure to look for deals. With a green tree, a little white paint and glitter snow or traditional flocking can bring it back to life. Merry Christmas!
