Servings: 12 cookies
Cost: $5

Ingredients

  • 1 C ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 C applesauce
  • 1/2 C white glue

Instructions

  • To prepare dough: in a large bowl, mix together 1 cup ground cinnamon and 1/3 cup applesauce and 1/2 cup of white glue
  • Stir the dough using a rubber spatula until consistency is smooth and dry
  • Turn out the dough onto a cool, flat surface; flatten with a rolling pin to 1/4 inch thick
  • Use your favorite holiday cookie cutter or gingerbread man cutter to shape into classic gingerbread men, stars or whatever your heart desires

Notes

*Applesauce gives the dough pliability, glue makes it firm, and cinnamon imparts the fragrance you will remember for years to come as well as the authentic gingerbread color
Pro Tip: If dough becomes too dry, spritz with water. If it sticks to rolling pin or work surface, sprinkle with additional cinnamon.
These gingerbread decorations can be used year after year if stored properly. Simply decorate once dry and let the decor dry out completely then store in air tight containers with wax paper in between each layer. You really can pull them back out year after year and they still look and smell great!
