25-Minute Fluffy Gluten Free Apple Fritters

These gluten free apple fritters are warm and fluffy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside with those warm bits of real apple in each bite. Truly, a donut shop classic just like you remember. They are classically fried and only take 25-minutes to make! The cinnamon give it that warmth of flavor you want in the fall while the sour cream gives them the best texture.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon gluten free vanilla
  • 5 tablespoons butter softened

Dry Ingredients

Apple Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • In a standing mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar
  • Add the milk, sour cream, vanilla and melted butter then mix well
  • In another bowl, combine all dry ingredients
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well
  • Fold in chopped apples
  • Heat the oil either in a deep fryer or deep fry pan until it reaches roughly 375°
  • On a HEAVILY gluten-free all-purpose or white rice floured counter, shape them into a fritter shape 1 inch thick using plenty of white rice or all-purpose flour to get it pliable OR just drop them into the oil with two spoons
  • Fry fritters for 2-3 minutes making sure to flip once then place on a baking rack over a paper towel lined baking sheet to let excess grease drain off
  • Meanwhile, make an easy glaze by whisking glaze ingredients together until no lumps are left then dip warm fritters into the glaze then let them drip and dry on a wire baking rack

Notes

You can use any variety of apple although, I am partial to the sweeter varieties. We actually used my mother-in-laws fresh apples right from her apple tree.
These really are best fresh and hot. I don't recommend saving them for another day. However, if you must, you can store them in an airtight container for 2 days. You can then reheat them in the oven for 8 minutes when you are ready to eat them.
