Equipment

  • 1 small wine glass

Ingredients

  • 24 salami slices

Instructions

  • You will start by building your first, outer salami layer by folding one salami slice in half and placing it on the rim of a small wine glass (half of the salami should be inside the glass and the other half on the outside) Add another salami slice and overlap the first slice by half. Repeat until you have 4 slices and the small wine glass rim is covered.
  • For the next layer, repeat the same steps as above but this time making sure to cover the first layer with 6 slices of salami so they will be closer together.
  • For the next 3 layers, place the salami over with more of the meat on the inside than the outside with each layer so it tiers with each layer. Each row will be a little higher than the one under it.
  • Once you have finished and the last layer is a single sheet of salami basically, cover the glass with a small plate and turn over. Gently, press down on the salami and twist gently. Then lift the glass off and congratulations, you have a charcuterie board rose in just a few minutes.

Notes

Pro tip: Try to alternate the salami pieces in each layer. This way, there is an overlapping effect on your salami flowers.

What is the best meat for a charcuterie rose?

While I like to use pieces of salami, you can use different types of meat or deli meat. Prosciutto is a great option as well as pepperoni. Thicker cuts work best, but the thin slices of Prosciutto will make for a layered, beautiful rose with a refined touch. Pepperoni roses will be almost the same as salami roses. You can also make a variety of different meat roses to add to your snack board.

Can I make a vegetarian version?

Yes, if you're making a vegetarian or vegan charcuterie board, you can use zucchini or thin cucumber slices to make a rose. This is such a fun way to bring some visual elements to a meatless board.

Storage

Storing - Store the salami wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container for a few hours in the fridge before serving. To store leftovers, you can take the rose apart and store in a ziplock bag to preserve freshness.
Freezing - We do not recommend freezing salami.
