A charcuterie rose is an elegant and delicious centerpiece that makes the perfect addition to any charcuterie board. With one ingredient and three easy steps, get ready to take your appetizer to the next level.
If you know me, you know that charcuterie boards are my thing! I love making everything from a small charcuterie board to a Mexican charcuterie board. They’re so easy to make, perfect for small gatherings or big parties, and they always impress.
When I first starting making charcuterie, I thought that a salami rose would be difficult to assemble for our valentine’s charcuterie board. But boy was I wrong! A salami, pepperoni, or other cured meat rose is deceivingly easy to assemble and is a sure fire way to increase the aesthetic appeal of your grazing board.
I like to add charcuterie roses to my gluten-free charcuterie board and these charcuterie cones. You can make different sizes of salami roses depending on the size of your charcuterie board. But the good news is, no matter what type of rose you make, the step-by-step process is still simple, straightforward, and makes for a great appetizer.
Why you’ll love making salami roses
- Ready in under 5 minutes, it’s a quick and easy way to elevate your appetizers
- You only need one simple ingredient – your choice of cured meat
- It pairs well with a variety of cheeses, fruits, crackers, and more
- You can easily wow your guests without the hassle
- Theres a burst of savory flavor in every bite
What is the best meat for a charcuterie rose?
While I like to use pieces of salami, you can use different types of meat or deli meat. Prosciutto is a great option as well as pepperoni. Thicker cuts work best, but the thin slices of Prosciutto will make for a layered, beautiful rose with a refined touch. Pepperoni roses will be almost the same as salami roses. You can also make a variety of different meat roses to add to your snack board.
How to make a charcuterie rose
Step 1: Outside pedals
Using a small wine glass or champagne flute, fold one piece of salami in half and place it on the rim of the glass. Repeat this until you have 4 slices and the glass rim is covered.
Step 2: Repeat
Repeat the folding process along the outside of the champagne glass. For the second layer, you’ll want 6 slices of meat making sure that the first layer is completely covered. Repeat for the next three layers, making sure each new layer has more meat than the last.
Step 3: Finish
Cover the glass with a small plate and turn the glass upside down. Twist and lift the glass off leaving the rose on the plate.
Pro tip: Try to alternate the salami pieces in each layer. This way, there is an overlapping effect on your salami flowers.
Tips for making the best charcuterie board
- Using diverse textures and flavors will not only allow for great pairings, but give the board a nice visual appeal as well. Pairing crunchy gluten-free crackers with creamy cheeses and savory meats with fresh fruit.
- I like to use a few quality ingredients over quantity. Picking a few of the best cheeses for charcuterie and pairing with high quality meats enhances the overall experience.
- Creatively placing your ingredients on the board can go a long way. This salami rose is a great way to create a centerpiece and elevate the overall appeal of the board.
- For larger roses, you can use different sized wine glasses. For smaller roses use a champagne glass but for larger meat flowers use a big wine glass.
Can I make salami rosettes ahead of time?
Yes, you can make this charcuterie rose ahead of time for a party or if you’re in a pinch. Prepare a few hours before you’re ready to serve, cover with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container, and refrigerate until you’re ready to impress.
Can I make a vegetarian version?
Yes, if you’re making a vegetarian or vegan charcuterie board, you can use zucchini or thin cucumber slices to make a rose. This is such a fun way to bring some visual elements to a meatless board.
Storage
Storing – Store the salami wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container for a few hours in the fridge before serving. To store leftovers, you can take the rose apart and store in a ziplock bag to preserve freshness.
Freezing – We do not recommend freezing salami.

Charcuterie Board Rose
Ingredients
- 24 salami slices
Instructions
- You will start by building your first, outer salami layer by folding one salami slice in half and placing it on the rim of a small wine glass (half of the salami should be inside the glass and the other half on the outside) Add another salami slice and overlap the first slice by half. Repeat until you have 4 slices and the small wine glass rim is covered.
- For the next layer, repeat the same steps as above but this time making sure to cover the first layer with 6 slices of salami so they will be closer together.
- For the next 3 layers, place the salami over with more of the meat on the inside than the outside with each layer so it tiers with each layer. Each row will be a little higher than the one under it.
- Once you have finished and the last layer is a single sheet of salami basically, cover the glass with a small plate and turn over. Gently, press down on the salami and twist gently. Then lift the glass off and congratulations, you have a charcuterie board rose in just a few minutes.
