    Are Brussels sprouts keto PIN

In the word of green vegetables, Brussels sprouts, with their unique flavor and impressive versatility, have become increasing popular in kitchens and restaurants. But through the hype of low-carb diets, the question of are Brussels sprouts keto -friendly still lingers.

In this post we’ll dive into the leafy world of these miniature cabbages, exploring their low carb compatibility and culinary charm.

When it comes to serving options, there’s almost no limits to this great low carb vegetable. They make delicious appetizers, a wholesome addition to salads, or a low carb side dish that pairs with almost any main course.

Serve them with garlic stuffed chicken thighs or top on this apple cider chicken salad at your next family dinner. They also go great with our red cabbage salad and Mississippi chicken.

Now even though the keto diet gets a bad wrap, it’s more than just parmesan cheese and chicken breast. There are so many yummy, and healthy, foods that you can eat on a keto diet and Brussels sprouts are just one of them.

In fact, this creamy cheeseball recipe and this keto cucumber salad are keto friendly appetizers that everyone, even the carb lovers, always love. Practicing a low carb lifestyle does not mean you have to miss out on delicious foods!

    Are Brussels sprouts keto-friendly?

The good news is, Brussels sprouts are naturally low-carb making them a great fit for any ketogenic diet. They are packed with fiber, vitamins, nutrients, and have low net carbs which why they’re a healthy, and delicious, addition to any low carb meal.

However, Brussels sprouts are commonly cooked with a glaze like brown sugar, honey glaze, or another sugary sauce. When they’re coated in sugar, Brussels sprouts are no longer keto friendly. It’s important to be cautious with recipes that may include non-keto ingredients.

Can I include Brussels sprouts in my keto diet regularly?

Absolutely! Brussels sprouts can be a regular part of your diet. Not only do they have a low carb content, they’re rich in fiber, and vitamin C, and vitamin K. Regularly including Brussels sprouts in your diet is a great way to ensure your total carbs stay low while getting in enough essential nutrients.

What should I avoid when preparing Brussels sprouts?

If you’re following a low carb diet, it’s important to avoid high carb additives like maple syrup, honey, agave, simple syrup, or other sweeteners. Opt for keto-friendly sweeteners and sauces with minimal sugar content to maintain the dish’s low carb status.

How do you cook Brussels sprouts?

There are numerous different ways to cook this keto-friendly vegetable. One of the easiest ways is to toss the chopped veggie in the air fryer basket with some oil and cook until crispy.

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can roast them in the oven, sauté them, or even grill them. One of my favorite ways spice up Brussels sprouts is by adding balsamic vinegar.

    Brussels sprouts recipes to try

There are tons of Keto Brussels sprouts recipes out there. From roasted Brussels sprouts with instant pot bacon to crispy Brussels sprouts chips. These recipes use keto-approved ingredients to keep your carb intake in check while enjoying this nutritious vegetable.

A popular keto friendly way to cook Brussels sprouts is by frying them in bacon grease with other veggies. Season with sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes for an easy low carb recipe. The bacon fat adds tons of flavor but if you’re looking for a healthier option, fry them in olive oil or avocado oil.

If you’re looking for an easier way to cook fresh Brussels sprouts, you can throw them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and cook for roughly 20 minutes. Toss in some of your favorite vegetable and sweet potatoes, drizzle with olive oil, and season to your liking. It’s the perfect side dish that the entire family will love.
