This virgin Bloody Mary recipe with V8 is a favorite drink of mine. Not only is it a great way to get your vegetable intake it, it is also incredibly delicious.

Nothing makes a brunch better than having a perfect non-alcoholic Bloody Mary. This recipe is super easy and super popular. It is even better with some salt on the rim of the glass.

Virgin Bloody Mary Recipe v8 in a cup

This recipe is a take on the classic Bloody Mary cocktail. A Bloody Mary is a popular brunch cocktail and is frequently known as a meal in a glass. The mix of tomatoes, V8 juice, and the garnishes create the perfect drink that will leave you full and satisfied.

I actually have a post for a Non-Alcoholic Bloody Mary Mocktail already, but for this recipe I decided to switch out the organic tomato juice puree with V8. I love having two options for the best Bloody Mary recipe. Both have a lot of nutrients, but the V8 juice has even more vegetables and is quicker, which I love.

I have found that having the best Bloody Mary garnishes are key to having the best drink. Not only does it add great flavor, it also looks pretty (if you want to see pretty, check out my Blue Lagoon Mocktail). When making this mocktail, check out my post on How to Make the Perfect Mocktail Every Time so you can have the ultimate Bloody Mary.

Another thing I love about this easy Bloody Mary recipe is that the total time it takes to make this drink is only 5 minutes! An easy recipe I have come up with is my Virgin Margarita on the Rocks, which has lime juice and orange juice. It also only takes 5 minutes to make!

A traditional Bloody Mary typically has Vodka in it, so you would think you would want to replace it with non-alcoholic vodka. That is actually not the case for this drink. I think using extra V8 juice makes the drink even better.

You will find that there are many non-alcoholic versions of drinks, like non-alcoholic wine. We use it in our non alcoholic mulled wine recipe.

There are Bloody Mary mixes out there, but I find they do not always have all of the yummy seasonings that make a delicious classic cocktail. In my opinion, there is nothing better than coming up with your own recipes and seasoning mixes.

    What you need

When you are looking at this recipe, you may think that this Bloody Mary drink requires a lot of weird ingredients, but it’s very simple. All of the ingredients together create the perfect blend of tomato and seasonings for a tasty mocktail.

It is a Sunday brunch favorite among eaters too. If you are looking for ideas on how to throw a brunch, check out my Girls Brunch post for all of the tips.

    V8 juice

The base of this drink is V8 vegetable juice. V8 is well known for its delicious flavor, while also being filled with a ton of nutrients. It is tomato juice mixed with beets, carrots, celery, parsley, lettuce, spinach, and other vegetables.

Having V8 juice as the base for this nonalcoholic version of the bloody Mary is great for flavor and to sneak in some vegetables into your diet. Just pour a large glass and you are getting all of the vegetables you need for they day.

    Gluten-free soy sauce

*You can use regular soy sauce if you aren’t gluten-free

In regular soy sauce, you can typically find gluten. Even though it is a little amount, there is still gluten content, which can be harmful for those with celiac disease.

When looking for gluten-free soy sauce, make sure you see the words “gluten-free” on the label. You can also check the ingredients list to ensure there is no gluten in the sauce.

    Gluten-free Worcestershire sauce

*You can use regular Worcestershire if you aren’t gluten-free

Some brands of Worcestershire sauce are not gluten-free. Most are, but there are some that contain gluten. To ensure that you do not have a gluten exposure, make sure you buy a Worcestershire sauce that has “gluten-free” on the label.

You can also use vegan Worcestershire sauce if you desire. There are brands out there that make it, so you just have to look for it. Soy sauce is often a vegan alternative for Worcestershire sauce, but for the best flavor, you will want to use Worcestershire sauce.

    How to make it

    • Start by blending fresh tomatoes (or just add the tomato juice here if using canned), cucumbers, shallot and chili that have been roughly chopped
    • Puree until smooth, about 1-2 minutes
    • Put your V8 juice in a large pitcher then add a dash of hot sauce, horseradish, gluten-free soy sauce and Worcestershire and stir well
    • Finish adding the thyme, onion powder and black pepper to the tomato puree and stir again
    • On a plate, combine 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
    • Refrigerate the tomato mixture for 1-2 hours or until nice and cold
    • Rim the cups you are using with fresh lemon juice then dip into chili salt
    • Add ice cubes and pour tomato mixture over top
    • Garnish each cup with your favorite garnishes. I highly recommend a stalk of celery, bacon, green olive, fresh cucumber and a pickle.

Top tip: For a spicer drink, add a bit more of the chili powder.

What is the difference between a Bloody Mary and a Virgin Mary?

A Bloody Mary and Virgin Mary (also known as a virgin Bloody Mary) are the same, except a virgin Mary will replace the alcohol with extra tomato juice or drink of choice. When putting the word “virgin” with a drink, it means that the beverage does not contain alcohol.

What is the difference between a Virgin Bloody Mary and a Virgin Caesar?

A virgin Caesar is made of clamato juice rather than tomato juice. Everything else is about the same. Clamato juice is part clam juice and part tomato juice. A Bloody Caesar is the Canadian version of a Bloody Mary.

    How to store the leftovers

You can store the leftovers in the fridge for 3-5 days. A fun thing is that the flavor actually gets better over time. When it sits in the fridge, the flavors mix together and it is divine. Sometimes I will make the drink and let it sit in the fridge for a day or two before drinking it.

I love this recipe and I love how informative this post is! I have never tried a bloody Mary before (honestly, I’ve been kinda scared of them), so I was happily surprised! I really enjoyed the savory flavor.
