These Harry Potter Halloween snacks are a fun and festive way to celebrate the season this year.
Book lovers are especially going to love these Harry Potter Halloween snacks for their next party!
We are reading the Harry Potter books as a family right now so we decided to throw a Harry Potter party! The boys are just loving the whimsy and magical touch that unfolds in each chapter. One thing I am really loving about the books (especially after reading Voracious by Cara Nicoletti) is the culinary aspect it offers. There are truly so many descriptive passages about food the characters enjoy. It makes it easy to feel like you are there.
In the first book, I felt like I could actually smell the pumpkin pasties and taste the butterbeer. Since we are reading the books, my oldest decided to be Harry Potter for Halloween. I figured we could make it a bigger family affair by my dressing up as Professor McGonagall and our little lady dressing up as Hagrid’s dragon. I tried to talk my hubby into being Hagrid but he wasn’t having it. 😉 My other little guy also had his mind set on another costume so it will only be some of us dressed as Harry Potter characters.
Still, we couldn’t be more excited! I thought it would be fun to get into the Halloween spirit, as well as reward my boys for listening to the first book, by throwing a little Harry Potter party. We turned on the first Harry Potter movie, made up some butterbeer, cheese stick broomsticks and pumpkin pasties to enjoy together and let the good times flow. The boys loved everything! Below are some recipes we used to create the perfect Harry Potter party minus the gluten.
The butterbeer is fantastic topped with fresh nutmeg and/or crushed buttery Walkers gluten-free shortbread.
- 12 oz. cream soda
- 1 tsp. butter extract
- 1 C vanilla ice cream
- 1 T brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- Combine all ingredients in a blender for 30 seconds or until well blended
- Top with fresh nutmeg and/or Walkers crushed buttery gluten-free shortbread cookies
For these easy broomsticks, just cut a cheese stick in half and pull up the ends to create bristles. Stick a gluten-free pretzel in the top to create the handle. We used Glutino brand gluten-free pretzels here but you can use whatever brand you prefer. Finish them off by tying strips of chive around the top of the cheese broom.
