This copycat butterbeer recipe tastes just like the real thing from Universal Studios. Made with cream soda, vanilla ice cream, and butter extract for the perfect harry potter themed drink.
Huge Harry Potter fans have seen butterbeer in numerous movies and books but let’s bring it life. Make this yummy alcohol-free drink before your next harry potter movie marathon.
My family and I are reading the Harry Potter books now so we decided to throw a Harry Potter party! My boys are just loving the whimsy and magical touch that unfolds in each chapter.
I love making other harry potter food along with butterbeer. Pumpkin pasties, golden snitch peanut butter balls from fun money mom, butterbeer pudding cookies from Sugar Bean Baker, and Harry Potter’s iconic pink birthday cake are some of my top recommendations.
For more spooky type foods, you can make no-bake ghost cookies, halloween sandwiches, and even a Frankenstein cheeseball. Festive foods like that keep kids entertained and are easier to make than you think.
Is Butterbeer actually alcohol?
At Universal Orlando Resort, butterbeer is alcohol-free. This way it’s kid friendly and everyone can enjoy it. Although there are some recipe with a little bit of vanilla vodka, I choose to make my homemade butterbeer recipe alcohol-free. This easy recipe tastes the exact same as the real thing so be ready to make multiple batches!
What is Harry Potter Butterbeer made of?
There are just 5 simple ingredients in frozen butterbeer recipe. See the recipe card for the full list of ingredients.
Cream soda
The cream soda base is my favorite part to butterbeer. It’s where most of the delicious flavor comes from. I love A&W cream soda but you can use your favorite kind.
Butter extract
This is going to give this recipe the essential butterscotch flavoring. You don’t need butterscotch syrup or butterscotch schnapps for this recipe which makes it easy peasy.
Ice cream
You’ll want to use a thick vanilla ice cream for this recipe. Ben and Jerry’s is a family favorite but use whatever you like.
Brown sugar
Brown sugar adds to that fall/halloween flavor you’d get at Harry Potter world. You only need 1 tablespoon but don’t forget it!
Allspice
Allspice is similar to brown sugar in the sense that it’s going to give your butterbeer a nice fall and pumpkin spice type flavor.
How to make butterbeer
You’re going to love how easy this recipe is to make in just two simple steps.
Step 1: Pour cream soda, butter extract, ice cream, brown sugar, and allspice into a blender for 30 seconds or until well blended
Step 2: Top with fresh nutmeg and/or Walkers crushed buttery gluten-free shortbread cookies
Pro Tip: Feel free to add some heavy cream, frozen whipped cream, or caramel syrup for some extra flavor.
Expert tips and FAQs
While treacle tart is Harry Potters absolute favorite treat, he also enjoys loves chocolate frogsย which you can buy or make your own with this frog chocolate mold. Another great harry potter food is three broomsticks made with pretzels and cheese.
J.K Rowling did come up with the idea for the popular drink, butterbeer, that is now served at Harry Potter world. You can make a hot butterbeer recipe or make a frozen version at home for the perfect harry potter themed treat.
Butterbeer tastes like cream soda ice cream float with a hint of butterscotch mixture. It’s a very tasty drink but it’s also a very sweet drink. The heavy whipping cream on top is my favorite part of the drink.
