Harry Potter party food is festive and fun. From edible broomsticks and butterbeer to pumpkin pasties, we’ve got you covered!
Harry Potter Party Food
We are reading the Harry Potter books as a family right now so we decided to throw a Harry Potter party! The boys are just loving the whimsy and magical touch that unfolds in each chapter.
One thing I am really loving about the books (especially after reading Voracious by Cara Nicoletti) is the culinary aspect it offers. There are truly so many descriptive passages about food the characters enjoy. It makes it easy to feel like you are there.
In the first book (get all the Harry Potter books here), I felt like I could actually smell the pumpkin pasties and taste the butterbeer! So think about what foods most remind you of the book and create some magic!

So what do you serve at a Harry Potter party?
I would say butterbeer and edible cheese and pretzel broomsticks are an absolute must. You can find instructions for both below.
Or create some other great drinks that would accompany any of these treats well in our roundup of Halloween mocktails.
Pumpkin pasties, golden snitch peanut butter balls from fun money mom, butterbeer pudding cookies from Sugar Bean Baker and Harry Potter’s iconic pink birthday cake are also some of my top recommendations. Each will make you are right in the wizarding world!
Speaking of wizarding world, you should take a peak at the delicious Harry Potter treats we enjoyed at Universal Studios. I was a big fan of the pumpkin juice! These ones are so cute and even have a little pumpkin topper.
How to make pumpkin pasties
For delicious pumpkin pasties, just combine 1 C pumpkin puree, 1 egg, 1 tsp. melted butter, 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice & 1/3 C brown sugar in a bowl and set aside.
Roll out and cut 5″ rounds with your favorite gluten-free (or regular) pie crust dough. We used prepared Bob’s Red Mill pie crust.
Spoon 2 T of pumpkin mixture into each round and fold over. Pinch the edges to create a pocket. Cut slits in the top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 350° for 45-55 minutes or until fork comes out clean.
What are Harry Potter’s favorite foods?
Pumpkin pasties, butter beer and pumpkin juice are some more favorites. All of this is my opinion formed from reading the books and watching the movies many times…
How to make edible broomsticks
For these easy edible broomsticks, just cut a cheese stick in half and pull up the ends to create bristles. Stick a gluten-free pretzel in the top to create the handle.
Finish them off by tying strips of chive around the top of the cheese broom.
How to make butterbeer
Combine all ingredients in a blender for 30 seconds or until well blended
Top with fresh nutmeg and/or crushed buttery gluten-free shortbread cookies
