Our instant pot jasmine rice recipe is simple and delicious. The instant pot helps make the perfect jasmine rice so you can enjoy this yummy rice in a quick amount of time.
Instant pot jasmine rice is a staple for many recipes and makes a delicious side dish. With an instant pot, you will be able to have a short cook time and won’t have to worry about stirring the rice every two seconds which is the same for our Instant Pot Indian style rice recipe.

My instant pot is one of my favorite things EVER. It is an all-in-one cooking appliance so I was able to get rid of my rice cooker and slow cooker. I was nervous about having an electric pressure cooker at first, but now I can’t live without it.
One thing I love about my instant pot is that I can cook a variety of things in it. For example, I love making The BEST Instant Pot Meatballs for spaghetti and instant pot lasagna or my Instant Pot Apple Crisp (Gluten-Free) for dessert! Instant pot recipes are easy recipes and also great for meal prep like our instant pot broccoli cheddar soup and instant pot chicken noodle soup.
An instant pot recipe that is one of my kids favorite recipes is my Gluten-Free Mac and Cheese (Instant Pot) recipe. This Instant Pot chicken pasta is another quick and delicious Instant Pot dish.
I believe that Instant Pots make the best rice. The high pressure and the natural pressure release makes rice that has a perfectly sticky texture. I think that when you cook rice on the stove top, it takes longer and is not as fluffy.
A key thing to cooking rice in the instant pot is to get the right water ratio and rice ratio. Without getting it just right, you’ll get crunchy rice. For this recipe, use two cups of jasmine rice and two cups of water.
Pro Tip: Throw some of your favorite seasoning into the pot before cooking the rice to change the flavor of the rice (I like to use cilantro and a squeeze of lime).
My Creamy Italian Chicken (Instant Pot and Slow Cooker Options) recipe is a great main dish that pairs well with a bowl of rice or our gluten-free orange chicken. You can also pair it with Instant Pot Carrots…The BEST! recipe or this Instant Pot Chicken Tinga.
What you need
Since this recipe is just for rice, all you need is one ingredient. And, you probably already have the ingredient in your pantry.
Jasmine rice
Jasmine rice is sold pretty much anywhere you shop. You can find it at your local grocery store, online, or at a local Asian market. All rices are gluten-free, so there is no need to worry about that.
You can use white jasmine rice or brown jasmine rice. It is up to personal preference.
How to make jasmine rice
To make jasmine rice in the instant pot pressure cooker, use the following steps:
- Add the cups of rice and water to the instant pot and seal the lid of the instant pot (you can use cold water or warm water, it doesn’t matter)
- Set on pressure cook or the manual setting to 3 minutes
- Once it has come to temperature and cooked 3 minutes, let it do a slow release for 10 minutes
- Quick release after the 10 minute slow or natural release, fluff rice with a fork and enjoy
Jasmine rice is a long-grain white rice and is skinnier than your typical rice. It also has a fluffier texture to it. White rice is usually from China or other Southeast Asian countries, whereas jasmine rice is typically from Thailand. Fragrant jasmine rice has a stronger smell; some describe it as a plant-like smell.
Since it is still a white rice, it has the same nutritional value as white rice. There are other type of jasmine rice, such as a whole grain option, which are typically darker colors. Brown rice is a healthier option.
You’ll usually find jasmine rice in Thai and Vietnamese dishes. It is typically associated with foods from southeast Asia, but jasmine rice works with any Asian foods. I particularly like jasmine rice with stir fry. You can also serve it with teriyaki salmon bowl.
Let the rice cool down to room temperature before putting in an airtight container. It will last 4-6 days in the refrigerator. To reheat your rice, you can throw it in the microwave for thirty seconds or so. Make sure you add a bit of water before microwaving to have fluffy rice.
