Our sour cream chip dip is the easiest, tastiest dip you will ever find. It’s creamy taste makes it a great side dish that pairs well with pretty much anything.
If you are looking for the ultimate sour cream chip dip, then look no further… You have found it! This easy recipe for our sour cream chip dip is ready in 10 minutes, is a crowd pleaser, and is perfect your next party or family gathering.

This sour cream chip dip is so addicting! It is sure to be a hit at your next movie night, party, girls brunch (see my Girls Brunch and Roasted Balsamic Potatoes Recipe post), or any other gathering you are having. The best part is that you won’t be slaving away all day in the kitchen.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved sour cream chip dip. They were always so delicious but each was missing just a little something. That’s why I decided to create my own.
Some sour cream chip dips only have basic ingredients, like sour cream. However, this one combines the creamy goodness of both sour cream and cream cheese. It takes minimal effort, which makes this creamy dip even better.
Other recipes also use extra seasonings, such as garlic powder, garlic salt, and black pepper, but I find less is more when it comes to this incredible chip dip. You’ll find this homemade dip is a big hit at any special occasion (especially a Super Bowl party–check out my Gluten-Free Superbowl Food and Party Planning post) and makes a quick appetizer when you are in a pinch.
One ingredient I couldn’t do without were pimentos. It’s so silly but when I was a kid I used to suck out the pimentos from green olives because I loved them so much. I know, I was a weird kid. I loved beets too…
The great thing about this sour cream chip dip is that it is great for more than just chips. I love dipping those mini peppers or sliced mini English cucumbers in it. Carrot sticks and celery sticks are also great accompaniments.
Something I also like to pair this sour cream chip dip with is a sandwich. Just like school lunches, sandwiches and chips go together. Check out my 15+ Gluten-Free Sandwiches to Love post to find a sandwich to pair with this amazing chip dip.
I also really love artichoke dip. It is fun to have multiple dips to chose from, so you should definitely check out my Instant Pot Artichoke Dip recipe.
Another yummy one is my BEST Cheeseball you will ever make recipe. Or our pineapple cheeseball, beef cheeseball or our mini cheeseballs.
What you need to make it
Since this recipe has simple ingredients, it is almost too easy. In less than ten minutes, this dip is ready for you to snack on.
Gluten-free ranch dip mix
You have probably used this before because ranch dip mix is the best. It can be used with a bunch of different recipes and gives an extra boost of flavor.
To enhance our chip dip flavor, gluten-free ranch dip is the key.
Pimentos
I already told you how much I love pimentos, so of course I added them to this recipe. You’ll only need 1/4 cup, but trust me, it will change the game. But if you are not a pimento fan, you can leave them out of the recipe.
Cream cheese
The combination of cream cheese and gluten-free ranch dip mix is one of my favorite things ever. It is such a great base to a chip dip and really adds the extra creamy flavor. I don’t know about you, but my mouth is already watering just thinking about it.
Sour cream
Adding to the cream cheese, sour cream helps make the dip more of a dip. It adds a bit of liquid to the dip so it is not as thick. Sour cream adds the perfect balance for a creamy, delicious chip dip.
How to make the dip
- Whip the sour cream and cream cheese with a standing mixer or hand mixer until light
- Add the remaining ingredients and stir
- Place in a serving bowl and add parsley for a finished look
Top tip: This dip is best served cold, so make sure you refrigerate before serving.
I prefer Ruffles original flavor because of the ridges, which enhance the dip with the different texture. The original flavor is a good balance with the ranch flavoring of the dip. Any plain potato chips work though. You can even use tortilla chips and pita chips (if you are ok with gluten). Fresh veggies are another yummy thing that pairs well with this dip.
Absolutely! All you need to do is replace the dairy products: cream cheese, sour cream, and cheddar cheese with your favorite dairy free options. This dip is just as good when made dairy free.
Ranch dressing has buttermilk as the base, whereas ranch dip mix has a base of sour cream. The dip mix has a thicker consistency compared with ranch dressing, so dip mix is better for dips and dressing is better for salads.
You could, but it would not taste as good. Using ranch dressing will make the dip thinner and have a slightly difference flavor since is has buttermilk in it. So, it would be a good thing to use the ranch dip mix instead.
How to store leftovers?
If you are lucky enough to have leftovers, you can put them in an airtight container and put it in the fridge. It will last up to two weeks in the fridge. I find this is the best dip to have for leftovers and is even better the next day.
