These waffle fries in air fryer are one of my favorite easy side dish recipes. They take less 11 minutes to make which is perfect for busy weeknights!

Let’s be honest, waffle fries are superior to any other type of french fries. They’re crispier, easier to dunk in your favorite dipping sauce, and taste more authentic than thin fries.

Crispy waffle fries made in air fryer

I’ve been using my air fryer for all sorts of recipes lately! The cooking time in an air fryer is so much faster than an oven or stove top! You can also avoid that extra oil when using an air fryer.

Frozen chicken tenders in air fryer, frozen waffles in air fryer, pot pie in air fryer and easy frozen spring rolls in air fryer have been my go-to quick dinner recipes. I’m able to get food on the table quickly and on top of that, clean up is a breeze!

My gluten-free mashed potatoes make a great side dish, but sometimes I need something easier and quicker. These air fryer waffle fries are so simple and all you need is a bag of fries!

What to serve with waffle fries

I like to pair these homemade fries with a source of protein for a more complete meal. These Instant pot gluten-free chicken wings are a super easy recipe that tastes great with waffle fries! I also like gluten-free meatloaf with these fries!

Ingredients for air fryer frozen waffle fries

This easy side dish only calls for one ingredient but feel free to add your choice of spices as well!

    Frozen Waffle Fries

I like to use gluten-free waffle fries but you can use sweet potato waffle fries or another kind of frozen waffle-cut fry. If you’re using sweet potato fries, curly fries, or regular fries, the cooking time will vary.

    Spices

Adding spices is an optional step, but its a great way to add extra flavor to your air fry waffle fries. Garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, sea salt, etc. are all good spices to add!

How to make waffles in air fryer

Step 1: Place 1/2 the bag of frozen waffle fries into the air fryer basket in an even layer (a little bit of overlap is fine)

add waffle cut fries to air fryer basket

Step 2: Cook at 350 degrees f for 10 minutes or until cooked through and crispy. Depending on the amount of fries, your cook time may vary. Smaller air fryers also tend to cook faster as well!

Step 3: Remove and cook the next batch taking off a minute or two since the air fryer will be preheated.

Top Tip: You can put your waffle-cut fries back in the air fryer for a couple more minutes if you find they’re not fully cooked.

    Expert tips and FAQs

Why are my air fryer fries not crispy?

Make sure that when you add your frozen waffle fries, they do not have freezer burn. This can cause your fries to become soggy. Another thing is to make sure you don’t add too much olive oil. Too much oil can make your fries soggy as well.

Do you have to flip fries in air fryer?

For crispier fries and best results, you’re going to want to shake or flip your fries a single time. This ensures that all sides of the fries are getting hit with hot air.

Can you use aluminum foil in the air fryer?

Yes! If you’d rather avoid the mess you can line the bottom of your air fryer with foil. I do this with all my air fryer recipes because all you have to do is take out the foil when you’re done for easy clean up!

How do you reheat leftover fries?

You can reheat these frozen waffle fries in air fryer at 350 degrees for 3-5 minutes or until thoroughly hot. Reheating them in the air fryer will make them crispier than reheating in the microwave.

How do you store waffle fries?

You can store these homemade waffle fries  in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. You should let your fries cool completely before storing. I recommend placing a paper towel in the bottom of your container to catch any excess moisture.

Genius!! I’m pregnant and all I have been craving are waffle fries. I love that I can have these and not feel guilty about eating them. Air fryers are the best!
