My non-gluten free sister and her husband (yeah the one we tricked with these cupcakes) said these are the BEST gluten free chocolate chip cookies! They truly are so yummy and have the perfect balance of chewiness, sweetness, and chocolaty goodness that will have everyone reaching for seconds.

Ok let me just tell you straight out... We found the perfect balance of gluten free measure for measure flour combined with just a bit of almond flour and two sugars to give you the very best chocolate chip cookies.
In the kitchen as I experimented making these again and again, I found that both sugars give the perfect sweetness and flavor when combined with butter. The almond flour is absolutely the key to that perfect crunch on the outside while the King Arthur measure for measure flour makes sure they are soft and chewy in the center.
In fact, my sister and brother in law (who don't eat gluten free) now dub them their favorite recipe! They literally buy gluten free flour just to make these! My brother in law is very picky and he couldn't tell they were gluten free and asked my sister if they could make them again after the first time. Success!
Our chocolate chip cheeseball and crockpot candy are other great treats to make with your chocolate chips. And be sure to save some to make our gluten free cannoli.

Why you'll love these chocolate chip cookies
- So versatile: We also love making ice cream sandwiches with them. It can be hard to find a gluten-free cookie with the right texture, but I promise this recipe won't disappoint. I wait for them to cool completely and freeze them for about 15 minutes so they are easier to handle as ice cream goes inside then freeze them again.
- Made with pantry staples: You can make them with pantry-staple ingredients that you probably already have on hand like sugar, chocolate chips, salt and baking soda. I went through my gluten free pantry to see what I typically keep on hand when thinking of ingredients used here.
- Great gift: Another great thing about this easy recipe is that you can prep the ingredients in a jar and give away as gifts during the holidays! It's the best thoughtful, homemade Christmas gift and my family loves to make them. This is where I like adding pecan pieces because they seem so holiday forward but we have also added chopped candy canes too.
- Easy for level one GF bakers: This recipe is fool proof and works great as a starter recipe for someone new to living gluten free. I had my sister make them multiple times and she considers herself a level one baker.

Ok let's gather the ingredients to make them...
- GF Flour - You'll need a measure for measure gluten-free flour blend. I like to use King Arthur gluten free measure for measure flour. When searching for a gluten-free flour blend, there are many great ones out there. Just make sure for this recipe, that you use one that contains xanthan gum.
- Nutmeg - I like to add a touch of nutmeg to my cookies because it's an easy way to take them from good to great. And it adds some warmth like you feel in grandma's kitchen. I believe this little touch takes these cookies to the next level.
- Toppings - Chocolate chips and pecan pieces are my go-to's but you can omit the pecans if you want a classic chocolate chip cookie.
- Sugar - You'll need white sugar and brown sugar for the perfect softness and sweetness. The brown sugar also gives it a more buttery flavor.

How to make gluten-free chocolate chip cookies

Pro Tip: Chilling the dough for an hour before baking will help keep the cookies from spreading. Also, place the dough on chilled, clean pans to prevent pre-mature spread of the cookies.

Tips for making the best gf cookies
- To keep your cookies from crumbling, keep the oven door closed while the cookies are baking for best results. A higher heat will prevent them from spreading or crumbling.
- For an extra chocolatey flavor, use chocolate chunks or chop a bar of chocolate. This way, there's more chocolate spread throughout the cookie. You can also use white chocolate chips as well.
- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt on top of the cookies right after they're done baking or an extra touch. There's nothing better than the salt and chocolate combo.
- For perfectly shaped cookies, use a cookie cutter or a large glass cup to shape the cookies right after they're done. While they're still warm, you will be able to mold the cookies into perfect circles.
