What you’ll need
- Ground beef – I prefer to use lean ground beef for this pasta but you can use whatever type of hamburger you like.
- Tomatoes – You’ll need a can of tomato sauce, tomato juice, and diced tomatoes for the perfect, light, and flavorful homemade sauce.
- Spices – Onion powder, oregano, parsley flakes, garlic salt, and chili powder are just a few of the spices I like to add to this pasta. Feel free to customize this recipe with your favorite spices.
- Cornstarch – Cornstarch helps the sauce thicken and better stick to the pasta.
- Pasta – I love the Jovial brand of gluten-free pasta because it’s made from brown rice flour for a the perfect texture and extra nutrient density. Chickpea pasta and other brands of brown rice pasta are good options if you’re looking for extra protein.
How to make gluten-free pasta
Step 1: Ground the beef
Ground the beef into small pieces until no longer pink. If you’re using beef with a high amount of fat, make sure to drain any excess grease or soak it up with a paper towel before incorporating into the sauce.
Step 2: Finish the sauce
Sprinkle the meat with cornstarch then add the remaining sauce ingredients to the pot. Let simmer for roughly 30 minutes while stirring every once in awhile.
Step 3: Cook the noodles
While the sauce is cooking, boil your noodles as directed on the package until al dente.
Step 4: Serve and enjoy
Drain the pasta and serve with spaghetti sauce, parmesan cheese, and fresh basil.
Pro tip: Salt your pasta water for deeper flavored noodles! This will also help the noodles absorb more of the sauce when combined.
Variations
- Add fresh vegetables – I recommend adding in diced zucchini, squash, bell peppers, mushrooms, yellow peas, or fresh spinach for added nutrients and flavors.
- Type of pasta – While I prefer regular the thin strands of spaghetti or capellini noodles, you can easily use penne, rotini, angel hair, even fettuccine.
- Different meat – You can omit the meat all together or use Italian sausage, ground chicken, ground turkey, etc.
Storage
- Storing – You can store this easy gluten-free spaghetti recipe in the fridge an airtight container for 2-3 days. Make sure your pasta has cooled to room temperature before storing and reheat in the microwave or in the instant pot when you’re ready to serve. Top with more parmesan cheese and olive oil for the same great taste the next day.
- Freezing – You can freeze this delicious gluten free recipe for up to 3 months.
Is gluten-free pasta healthier?
Gluten-free noodles can be healthier than wheat-based pasta if they’re made with chickpeas, brown rice, or another complex carbohydrate. These pastas have a higher protein content as well as more grams of fiber than normal noodles which makes them a healthier option. If you’re looking to make this even healthier, you can add vegetables to the pasta sauce.
