This 5 MINUTE non-alcoholic virgin margarita on the rocks recipe is such a good mocktail and nobody will be able to taste the removal of traditional tequila. This is as flavorful as it gets, just like the real thing!

    Virgin Margarita Mocktail

This classic margarita drink is so fresh and simple. It can be made in just 5 minutes with a few simple ingredients found in any grocery store. I like to whip up a big batch of this fun drink on a hot summer day. While it is the perfect mocktail for summer, it is also wonderful in the fall or winter by a cozy fire.

I knew I wanted to create a non-alcoholic version of this classic cocktail for myself and others who live alcohol free. This one really does taste just like the real deal and I’m telling you, nobody will know the difference.

The burn in our alcohol-free margarita is just as strong as one with tequila. We found a non-alcoholic option that does the trick. Let me tell you more…

What is a non-alcoholic substitute for Tequila?

We love finding substitutes for things like our non-alcoholic Prosecco drink, non-alcoholic vodka and non-alcoholic gin so tequila was another great challenge. Luckily, this Ritual tequila alternative still has the same burn just as their 0.0 rum does in our virgin mojito mocktail.

You can really use any non-alcoholic tequila but I found that this brand gives the most authentic result. I made them for some friends who regularly have tequila and they said they couldn’t tell the difference!

What are virgin margaritas made of?

Traditional margaritas are made of tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice so we wanted to keep it as traditional as possible. Here is what we recommend using in your non-alcoholic margarita.

    • Non-alcoholic tequila (we used Ritual Zero Proof Tequila Alternative) and it has an amazing burn!)
    • Fresh orange juice
    • Fresh lime juice
    • Agave nectar or simple syrup
    • Ginger beer (check out our Ginger Beer Mocktail)
    • Rock salt

The great thing about this easy virgin margarita recipe is that you can also go untraditional and rim the margarita glasses with raw sugar. You can do this instead of salt if you are more of a sweet tooth and want to add a bit of sweetness. And you can add tajin to the salt for a little kick.

If you are looking to make a spicy margarita, add some of our jalapeรฑo simple syrup for a nice kick of sweetness with different flavors.

You can add any of these other simple syrups for a different flavored margarita mockail. And you don’t even need a cocktail shaker to make this fantastic virgin drink!

    • Raspberry Simple Syrup
    • Blueberry Simple Syrup
    • Blackberry Simple Syrup
    • Strawberry Simple Syrup
    • Peach Simple Syrup
    • Brown Sugar Simple Syrup
    • Orange Simple Syrup
    • Rosemary Simple Syrup
    • Lavender Simple Syrup

How to make a delicious virgin margarita mocktail

    • Prep the cup by running a fresh lime wedge around the rim of each glass squeezing just gently
    • Dip the cup in coarse salt spread on a small plate or shallow bowl
    • Add large ice cubes to the cup and pour ginger beer (or club soda if you prefer) over ice
    • Add fresh lime juice and a small amount of agave nectar or simple syrup
    • Add fresh orange juice
    • Pour in non-alcoholic tequila and give the whole drink a good stir until it is cold, about 10 seconds

Can you make these into a pitcher of margaritas?

Definitely! Just double or triple this recipe and mix it all in a large pitcher. Super easy and great for a crowd! And if it’s a hot day, add a few cups of ice to make virgin frozen margaritas for some delicious drinks.

While you are making a pitcher of margaritas, be sure to give our lavender lemonade, blackberry lemonade and Valentines mocktails with strawberry basil margaritas a try as well.
