There is nothing better than a backyard barbecue with friends. With this easy gluten free burger recipe (that uses a secret ingredient), everyone will be able to join in on the fun.
This gluten free burger recipe is perfect for any occasion. Whether it be for a neighborhood gathering, summer party, or dinner on a Friday night, this recipe will have people begging for more.
A good hamburger can be hard to find, especially for those who are on gluten-free diets. Popular fast-food restaurants do not usually offer gluten-free buns, so those with gluten allergies are either stuck with a bunless burger, lettuce wrap, or no burger at all.
However, some offer a gf bun or even have gluten-free menus. For example, Burger King has burgers that are gluten-free when you order them without a bun (but does not have gluten-free buns).
Chick-Fil-A now offers a gluten-free bun but I still prefer make the Chick-Fil-A gluten-free chicken sandwich at home because I can make it fried.

The menu at In-N-Out is all gluten-free except for their hamburger buns. They do have their “Protein Style” burger as a gluten-free burger option, which is a lettuce-wrapped burger.
This gluten free burger is by far the best though, especially when served up with our waffles fries in air fryer or frozen sweet potato fries in air fryer. You don’t even have to heat up the oven with these two recipes! And if you love seafood, this salmon burger would be fun. You can even see what to make when it’s too hot to cook.
When ordering gluten-free
A very important thing to ask about when ordering a gluten-free burger at fast-food chains is to make sure they have a dedicated fryer for gluten-free foods. This way you can avoid the risk of cross-contamination. You can also let the employees know you have dietary restrictions so they can change their gloves when making your food to avoid cross contact.
Because it can be difficult to eat out and find gluten-free menu items, I cook at home a lot. Luckily, I do not have to miss out on delicious burgers because of this easy gluten-free burger recipe.
All you need to do is replace a regular bun with a gluten-free burger bun! It’s about as simple as using corn tortillas instead of flour for your tacos.
I love to have these burgers at a pool party or as 4th of July Food for a backyard bash. Burgers and hot dogs are classic summer foods that can easily be made for those with gluten allergies. While you are at it, make sure to try some of these Summer Mocktails to add some fun to your summer party.
What you need
For a juicy burger, you need great ingredients. You need a mix of the perfect toppings, quality ground beef, and a great gluten-free bun. Bonus points if you have a great side as well (check out my sweet potato fries in the air fryer and cucumber salad recipes).
Gluten-free buns
Finding the best gluten-free hamburger buns is key for a great gluten-free burger. There are tons of brands that make gluten-free buns, breads, and other types of food options for those with a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. Canyon Bakehouse has one that is widely available.
Ground beef
For an amazing burger, you need quality ground beef. The key is to add some seasonings to the meat before making them into burger patties.
I always love a juicy patty for my burger. You can even make it a double double or triple burger. My boys often request that. If you have leftover beef, save it for our delicious tater tot casserole!
For a good steak, be sure to try this tender London broil.
Toppings
Toppings add an extra flair to a good burger. Caramelized onions are a good choice when it comes to toppings.
You can also use lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, or whatever you prefer. Some people prefer to just add cheese to their burgers. It is completely up to you!
How to make them
- Turn your grill propane tank on, then light the burners to high heat and brush the grates with tinfoil or a grill brush if necessary. Close the lid and heat the grill until it reaches 375 degrees
- While the grill heats, place all the ground beef into a big bowl and add the salt and pepper mixing well to make sure the salt and pepper are well incorporated
- Split the meat into half in the bowl then those half into half then one more time to get 8 balls of hamburger then shape them into patties
- Add patties to the grill, close the lid and cook until the burgers reach your desired doneness (For rare burgers, cook for 4 minutes total (125°F internal temperature), for medium-rare burgers, cook for 5 minutes total (135°F), for medium burgers, cook for 6 to 7 minutes total (145°F) and for well-done burgers, cook for 8 to 9 minutes total (160 °F) degrees internally is reached)
- If you want to add cheese, add it to the burgers the last minute of cooking (Any variety works but we love cheddar)
- Remove from heat turn off the grill and cover burgers loosely with foil and allow to rest for 5 minutes to retain those good juices
- Optional: place the gluten-free buns split side down on the grill, close the lid and toast for 2 minutes
Pro tip: Cook on the stovetop on a non-stick pan if the weather is bad outside. Unthaw extra meat to meal prep this easy meatloaf recipe for the next nights dinner too.
It depends. When you make them at home, you will probably use meat that is “100% ground beef” and it will be gluten-free. At restaurants, there may be traces of gluten from preparing other gluten-containing foods. If you are ordering out, make sure to tell them of your allergy.
You may think that since Taco Bell uses ground beef in some of their tacos, they should be gluten-free with a corn tortilla. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Taco Bell does not have any gluten-free options, either because they contain gluten or because of cross-contamination in their kitchen.
Yes, they are naturally gluten-free. It is important to check with the restaurant first because sometimes they use oil that contains gluten or they have cross-contamination with foods that contain gluten. As always, let the restaurant know of your allergy before ordering.
You will want to refrigerate them within two hours of cooking. They are good up to three or four days after cooking. You can also freeze them and they will last up to four months.

My mouth was watering at these pictures. YUMM. Definitely had to try them ASAP (but cooked them on the stovetop like you said, though, because it rained here). Thanks for the detailed post!
