Hash Browns in air fryer are hot and crispy on the outside while being soft and delicious on the inside!
They only take a few minutes to make and free up your oven and counter for cooking other breakfast foods.
Hash Browns in Air Fryer
Hash browns and breakfast potatoes have always been my favorite breakfast food. Topped with our Whole30 ranch dressing, they are absolutely divine! I decided that in addition to my gluten-free breakfast casserole, I needed to have a different way for cooking them.
The air fryer was an obvious choice since our air fryer sausage patties and frozen waffles in air fryer turned out so well! I really love that no added oil or fat is required cooking them this way. So the nutrient level listed on the package stays the same when you serve them.
Cooking them in the air fryer is also great because it keeps the oven and stove open for making our other favorite breakfast foods. Our gluten-free pancakes, French toast bites, INCREDIBLE gluten-free cinnamon rolls or gluten-free French toast casserole are all great accompaniments to these hash brown patties!
And if you don’t want to use the stove or oven at all, our cinnamon roll French toast casserole is made in the Instant Pot and it is delicious as well.
Let’s get to it. I first want to answer some questions you might have…
Do I need to add fat?
There is no need to add olive oil or extra fat to this recipe. The frozen hash brown patties already have enough fat. If you are using frozen shredded hash browns, be sure to spray them with cooking oil before cooking.
From how to cook frozen potstickers in air fryer, frozen egg rolls in air fryer, pot pie in air fryer to frozen chicken tenders in air fryer, it is easy peasy to use your air fryer and no added fat is needed.
Do you have to use frozen hash browns?
This recipe is for frozen, hash brown patties that are fully cooked. You can also use frozen shredded hash browns.
How long do you cook hash browns in air fryer?
The cooking time for these air fryer hash browns is only 12 minutes. If you like crispy air fryer hash browns, add 3 extra minutes for a total of 15 minutes.
If you are cooking shredded hash browns instead of patties, you will want to cook them for 15-20 minutes flipping half way through.
Can you cook them in a double layer?
For best results, it is best to cook them in a single layer at the bottom of the air fryer basket so they can all get as evenly crispy as possible. You can put them in a double layer but they will definitely not be as crispy as others.
If you are in a hurry to get as many cooked as possible (like I was when my kids were hungry) it certainly works to double layer them for efficiency. But again, they won’t be as crispy.
Whatโs the best way to serve them?
I love serving these hash browns all on their own hot and crispy with ketchup, ranch and salsa on the side.
They are great when made into a breakfast sandwich as well. You can even crumble them up and put them into scrambled eggs.
How do you store leftovers?
Leftover hash brown patties can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When you are ready to reheat them, just reheat them in the air fryer for 5-7 minutes at 380 degrees.
