This blue lagoon mocktail is a 3 minute non-alcoholic drink that everyone will enjoy! The sweet & fruity flavor comes from fresh citrus and sweet blue curaçao syrup.
Who doesn’t love a lemonade based drink with some added island flavors? This drink is fantastic for a hot summer day or a themed party. Since there is no alcohol, it’s also a great one for all party goers no matter their age!
What is the taste of blue lagoon?
The flavor of this delicious drink is fruity and sweet with the perfect touch of lemon to make your lips pucker at first sip. It comes together with tart and sweet lemonade, blue curaçao syrup instead of liquor to keep it non-alcoholic and non-alcoholic vodka or non-alcoholic gin in our case.
But don’t worry, you can easily use club soda in place of the non-alcoholic booze. I realize that not everyone keeps them on hand but I will say, they give it a nice punch. You could even use a non-alcoholic Prosecco if you like it sweeter.
You can add a dash of Raspberry Simple Syrup (also great in our fresh raspberry mocktail) for that “fruity tingle” that grenadine can give in many cocktails. We’ve also shared some of our other favorite simple syrups below that you can include for switching up flavors a bit.

When was the blue lagoon cocktail invented?
Some think this drink came about after the 1980’s movie titled Blue Lagoon but they would be wrong…
According to liquor.com: it is believed that the Blue Lagoon was created by Andy MacElhone, the son of famed bartender Harry MacElhone, at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in the 1960s or early 1970s. So, the drink predates the 1980 movie of the same name.
Non-Alcoholic Blue Curaçao
According to The Kitchen Magpie, “It’s flavor comes from the peel of the Laraha citrus fruit (which has been dried) and is grown on the island of Curaçao, hence the name. The blue color in this caribbean liqueur comes from blue food coloring which has been added to give it it’s distinctive coloring. It is similar to Triple Sec in that it is citrus flavored.”
Why is blue curaçao blue?
In the case of both blue curaçao liquor AND blue curaçao syrup like we use to keep this a mocktail, blue food dye is added to give it a distinct Island feel and color. Both are otherwise naturally clear.
Alcohol Free Gin
I really do love Caleno non-alcoholic gin because it is so clean and tastes great! I know that it isn’t as readily available so Ritual Gin is another one that works great.
What you need
- Non-Alcoholic Gin
- Blue Curaçao Syrup
- Lemondade (if you have extra, check out our lavender lemonade or blackberry lemonade)
- Fresh Lime
- Fresh Lemon Wedges
- Maraschino Cherries (these Luxardo from Italy are my favorite)
How to make a blue lagoon mocktail
Step 1: Start by filling a chilled cup with ice then add 1 ounce of non-alcoholic gin
Pro Tip: Larger pieces of ice work better as they take longer to melt and won’t muddle the flavors of the drink
Step 2: Add 1 ounce of blue curaçao syrup
Step 3: Squeeze fresh lime into the cup
Step 4: Top with lemonade
Step 5: Give it all a stir
Step 6: Garnish with fresh lemon wedge and maraschino cherries (these REAL ones from Italy are the best you will ever have)
Are alcohol-free drinks good for you?
Choosing to drink non-alcoholic drinks, mocktails, dry cocktails or whatever you want to call them definitely gives you a healthier alternative to drinking. While you do have more control without the effects of the alcohol, please keep in mind that they are sweeter drinks and sugar can still be present.

How do you make a frozen blue lagoon?
I love this drink on the rocks but you can definitely make it frozen, especially if you will be poolside on a hot day. To make this a frozen version, simply blend all ingredients with a cup of ice until completely blended.
How to make a large batch
To make a bigger batch for a crowd, simply 6-10X the easy recipe and make it in a pitcher. A long bar spoon bakes stirring easier but you can use anything.

Can you make these in advance?
I don’t recommend making an advance batch or the ice will melt and muddle the flavors. If you need to, don’t add the ice until right before serving.
