Halloween Charcuterie Board: CharBOOterie

This Halloween charcuterie board or charBOOterie, features a variety of sweets and savories that are sure to spook and delight!

Who doesn't love grazing on some goodies while dressed from head to toe in their favorite costume? I love making this eerie board for easy snacking.

 

It is the perfect precursor to our bacon wrapped Halloween meatloaf with ghost mashed potatoes or spooky ghost shepherds pie; two of our other Halloween favorites. Add our smoking Halloween mocktails and its the perfect spread!

Halloween Charcuterie Board

With this spooky board, ANYTHING goes! I like a variety of sweets and savories but you can cater it to your tastes and preferences for your easy charcuterie board.

The sweets are always the first thing the kids go for, while the adults tend to gravitate to the meats, cheeses and fruit. Our chocolate chip spider cookies or no-bake ghost cookies are delicious and darling to add!

For this board, I specifically wanted a dark and moody theme. Deep, rich purples and blacks are complimented with pops of green (like these darling witches finger cookies) and orange.

To get the moody feeling from the beginning, I started with a black slate serving platter. Then added white dishes for contrast.

You can keep it small with individual charcuterie boxes and a pancake charcuterie board or go BIG and make a spooky grazing table for a crowd! These are definitely some of our unique charcuterie boards.

From there, I recommend adding cheeses and meats. I like a variety and chose mini brie wheels, gouda rounds and honey cheddar.

I also added some fennel salami. You could also include our Halloween cheeseball Frankenstein, jack o'lantern quesadillas or even our Halloween sandwiches.

Usually, I do way more meats but I had other things I wanted to highlight so I kept it simple there. I also put some ghost veggie chips down so I made sure to keep enough space to feature them.

I then added a ceramic white pumpkin bowl for dimension and filled with with dark blue corn chips. Placing fig jam, chocolate hummus and blackberries in little white bowls was the next step.

This is always best to do before all the little things so you have placement and you can build everything else around them. Plus, when they are in little bowls they won't make the board as messy.

Adding green olives on skewers made for a creepy eyeball effect which I loved! From there I filled in the board with chocolate truffles, and the CUTEST gluten-free decorated sugar cookies which I will tell you more about...

Be sure to serve it all up with Halloween Activities Printable for a little fun and food. You can even add some pumpkin cheesecake cookies to serve with it.

A fun thing you could try is to make a mini Halloween charcuterie board but in a cute charcuterie cone. It's the same as this spooky board, but in a fun cone. You could really have a lot of fun decorating that as well.

Halloween Sugar Cookies

I have to say that I also considered a more modern white board. It was actually my initial idea which you can see at the bottom in the mini marble cookie board.

I still wanted to showcase the darling decorated sugar cookies I had originally decided on but most didn't quite fit on this board. So I just put them out to the side.

The little black and white bats and marble moons were a part of my original design idea and they fit, so I happily added them to this Halloween charcuterie board.

Thank goodness my go-to cookie gal Shanan of Enchanted Cookie Boutique just gets me because she also sent over the eyeballs, edible coffin and witches fingers. (Yes, she ships AND she does gluten-free!)

3D Coffin Sugar Cookie

The 3D coffin ended up being one of the major statement pieces on our Halloween charcuterie board or charBOOterie!

I loved the life like wood texture and the fact that it could be made into a more experiential dining experience. All the rage right now and fun to feature in your own home...

I filled it with gummy body parts and another eyeball sugar cookie which also added a bit of scare to other parts of the board where it was placed.

We also had a Dracula pez dispenser I was planning on placing inside but when I tried, it just didn't look right. The great thing about these Halloween charcuterie boards is that you can customize them to exactly what you like.

How to make it

So let's make our charBOOterie board shall we? Here's the easy steps to create your very own BOO board! It is very similar to our gluten-free cheeseboard and charcuterie but with a few minor differences.

Step 1: Get a black board (or whatever color you prefer) and add the cheeses, meats and crackers or ghost chips like we did here

Step 2: Add some dark dips or sauces in little cups

Step 3: Also add some deep hue fruits like blackberries

Pro Tip: The cups are especially great for berries so they don't get your other board ingredients soggy.

Step 4: Add some blue corn chips in a white pumpkin soup bowl or dish for a large statement piece

Step 5: Put stuffed green olives on a toothpick for a spooky eyeball effect

Step 6: Add any Halloween sugar cookies and other sweets, like chocolate truffles, that you want

CharBOOterie

A charBOOterie or BOO board are just alternative names to a Halloween charcuterie board but aren't they fun to say?!

When serving my snack board, I love to get bare branches and a black cloth to style it on. These skeleton salad tongs are also a fun touch.
