    Peach Simple Syrup

    February 29, 2024 By Chandice | 6 Comments | Updated June 10, 2024

Peach Simple Syrup in a bottle with peaches in a mesh strainer

Capture the essence of summer with this Peach Simple Syrup, bursting with sweet, juicy flavor. With just three ingredients and easy step, this simple syrup recipe will be ready for mocktails, ice cream, and lemonade in no time!

Peach Simple Syrup in a glass jar

Peach simply syrup, along with other fun simple syrup recipes, is a great way to take an otherwise ordinary dish or drink into something more flavorful. Start your day with a drizzle of syrup over your oatmeal or a splash in your morning tea for the best pick me up! I love that this recipe is homemade, with nothing artificial like store bought syrups.

What I love about peach simple syrup

    • The summer flavors: Bottle the vibrant peach flavors of summer and drizzle over this old fashioned peaches and cream recipe for the ultimate dummer dessert.
    • It couldn’t be easier, with just three simple ingredients and minimal effort, you’ll have this syrup ready to go in no time. Plus, it’s a great way to use leftover peaches or canned peaches.
    • Versatile uses: The possibilities for this syrup are practically endless. Experiment with different cocktails, desserts, and recipes like this gluten-free peach cobbler.
    • Make ahead option: You can keep infused blends and other simple syrups for up to a month in the refrigerator. This is a great option if you like to use syrups frequently.

    Can I use canned peaches?

Yes, you can use canned peaches for this recipe. Just be sure to drain them well before using. You can also use frozen peaches but make sure they are thawed and excess water is drained. But, I prefer fresh peaches, especially during late summer or early fall when they’re in season!

What do you need for homemade simple syrup?

    • Water – Any water will do, nothing fancy needed.
    • Sugar – I like to use white sugar for a neutral flavor, but you can also use brown sugar, coconut sugar, date sugar, or raw sugar for a different flavor profile.
    • Flavoring/Fruit – You can switch up the fruit for a diferent syrup. Some of my favorites are strawberry simple syrup, raspberry simple syrup, and blueberry simple syrup.

    How to make simple syrup

Mix: Add equal parts water and sugar to a medium saucepan and whisk until combined

Water added to sugar in a pot

Add the fruit: 1 and 1/2 cups of fresh or frozen peach slices

Peaches in sugar water being stirred with a whisk

Boil: Bring the mixture to boil over medium-high heat, whisking occasionally until sugar dissolves

Steep and strain: Once boiling, remove from heat and let steep for 45 minutes. Pour syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a glass bottle.

Peach Simple Syrup peaches in a strainer

Pro tip: For a smooth and silky syrup, make sure you strain the mixture well. Press down on the fruit as you strain to extract all the fruity flavors.

Can I make simple syrup in advance?

Make this syrup ahead of time and store it for up to a month in the fridge or up to 2 weeks at room temperature. A mason jar or another sealed glass jar works great. Once the syrup looks cloudy, it’s no longer good. This is a great option if you like syrup in your coffees, cocktails, or even drizzles on pancakes in the morning.

Peach Simple Syrup being poured into a glass

How do you thicken fruit syrups?

If you like a thicker syrup, you can cook the syrup for a longer time to allow excess moisture to evaporate. I like thicker syrups for pancakes, waffles, and other foods while classic syrup is best for drinks.

    Ways to customize simple syrup

    • Citrus twist: Add lemons, oranges, or limes when steeping for a slight, yet bright, citrusy twist to this homemade syrup.ย
    • Minty infusion: If you like to make virgin mojitos, consider adding a few mint leaves for an aromatic summer beverage.

    Similar recipes you’ll love

    • Non-alcoholic white sangria, made with fresh fruit that’s perfect for any summer party.
    • Fresh peach syrup on sourdough french toast.
    • Virgin strawberry margarita, with chips and mango habanero salsa.
    • Piรฑa colada mocktail, a family favorite for sipping by the pool.

    Blueberry Simple Syrup

    February 26, 2024 By Chandice | 17 Comments | Updated May 6, 2025

Blueberry Simple Syrup being poured into a strainer

Blueberry simple syrup is so easy to make and gives a fruity sweet touch to any drink or cake. Plus it only takes 45 minutes to make.

Try these other simple syrups you can make with fresh or frozen fruit. I love this Raspberry Simple Syrup, Blackberry Simple Syrup, Strawberry Simple Syrup, Peach Simple Syrup, and Orange Simple Syrup

Blueberry Simple Syrup in a glass jar

Why I love This Simple Syrup:

My favorite: This is one of my very favorite syrups. It is fresh, fruity and perfectly sweet! I love how gorgeous it is as well. The color is so vibrant and rich.

Easy: It couldn’t be easier to make and only requires three simple ingredients: water, sugar and fresh blueberries. You can always try this easy recipe with our brown sugar simple syrup as well for a warmer flavor with the fruit. See, super easy! One batch will make many mocktails or make a three layer cake extra moist.

Versatile: This simple syrup recipe can be made with either fresh or frozen blueberries (like we do in our razzleberry pie. I do personally love using fresh but frozen works just as well and sometimes it’s just the easier option. This recipe doesnโ€™t even require special water. Tap water or filtered work equally as well. Just donโ€™t use any carbonated water like club soda or seltzer.

    How to Make:

Whisk: Add 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar to a medium saucepan and whisk well.

Add: Next you will add 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries to the saucepan and stir.

Boil: Bring to a gentle boil on medium-high heat, whisking occasionally. Then remove from heat and let it steep for 45 minutes.

Strain: Pour syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a glass bottle, making sure to push down the fruit pieces as you strain.

What’s the best way to use this?

I love using it to make cake extra moist, especially between cake layers when doing a layer cake. Simply brush it onto the top of each cake layer before frosting.

I also love adding a splash to any of these mocktails for a little blueberry touch. You can easily swap it out for other fruit flavors in drinks that have others.

    • Valentines mocktails
    • Non-alcoholic mimosa mocktail
    • Prosecco drink
    • Blackberry lemonade
    • Non-alcoholic gin and tonic
    • Lavender lemonade
    • Grapefruit mocktail

It is also fantastic as a topping for ice cream or in a simple blueberry Italian soda with ice, soda water and cream. You can even use it as pancake syrup, on your French toast.

    Make Ahead and Storing Instructions:

Make ahead: This recipe can be made ahead and stored for whenever you want to use it.

Storing: You can store this syrup at room temperature or in the refrigerator, whichever you prefer. You can use a glass or plastic airtight container just be sure to let the syrup cool before pouring if you are going to use plastic.

How long do infused blends last?

You can keep infused blends like our rosemary simple syrup and this for 1-2 weeks at room temperature or 3 weeks to a 1 month in the refrigerator. Once it starts to get cloudy or discolored, it is no longer good.

    September 29, 2023 By Chandice | 1 Comment | Updated April 4, 2024

Spice up your drinks with this enticing jalapeno simple syrup. Crafted to elevate your go-to drinks, like the zesty virgin margarita or the intriguing non-alcoholic vodka dirty martini, this syrup adds a thrilling twist to your glass.

Jalapeรฑo Simple Syrup in a glass jar

If you’ve been craving that captivating blend of sweet and savory, this homemade jalapeรฑo syrup is your answer. Since solid sugar doesn’t blend as easily in beverages and may have a gritty texture, I knew there was a need for a homemade simple syrup with a little bit of heat.

Like our rosemary simple syrup, this sweetener has a savory flavor thats perfect for balancing out sugary drinks like this Non-Alcoholic Bloody Mary Mocktail or this Non-Alcoholic Gin and Tonic.

While it is a star in beverages like a virgin strawberry margarita, this easy syrup is not limited to just mocktails. You can drizzle it overย instant pot chicken wingsย or other spicy food for a unique glaze.ย Consider adding this jalapeรฑo salt as well.

Jalapeรฑo Simple Syrup being poured into a strainer

    • It elevates a variety of non-alcoholic drinks and spicy cocktails with an irresistible blend of sweetness and heat.
    • With three simple ingredients and minimal effort, you can have this long lasting syrup ready in no time.
    • You can customize the level of spiciness to your liking.
    • It’s made with fresh jalapeรฑos for a vibrant, authentic flavor.

    The ingredients

It’s incredibly straightforward. This delightful, sweet and spicy flavor arises from just three simple ingredients…

    • Water – Tap water will do just fine, no need for distilled or anything fancy.
    • Sugar – Granulated white sugar works best for this recipe but coconut sugar, brown sugar, or raw sugar will do.
    • Fresh Jalapeรฑo – Fresh jalapeรฑo results in a better, fresher flavor but you can use canned jalapeno slices for convenience.

    Can I use different peppers?

Yes! If you’re looking for something other than jalapeno peppers, feel free to experiment with serrano peppers or habanero peppers to achieve your desired level of heat.

How to make jalapeรฑo simple syrup

    Step 1: Measure and mix

Add equal parts water and part sugar to a pan and whisk until the sugar dissolves.

    Step 2: Add the heat

Add the sliced jalapeรฑo peppers to the pan.

    Step 3: Boil

On medium-high heat, bring the mixture to a boil and then remove from heat. Let steep for 25 minutes.

    Step 4: Strain and store

Pro tip: When cutting and handling jalapeรฑos, avoid touching your face and eyes as it can cause irritation.

Jalapeรฑo Simple Syrup being poured into a glass jar

Can I adjust the spiciness of the syrup?

Yes, you can adjust the heat level. The longer you let the jalapeรฑos steep, the spicier the syrup will become. If you’re not a fan of spicy flavors, the easiest way to make this liquid sweetener less spicy is by reducing the steeping time. You can also adjust the spiciness by simply using more, or less jalapeรฑos.

    How do you store simple

Storing – You can store this syrup at room temperature in a sealed, glass bottle for one to two weeks.

Refrigerating – Although simple syrup does not need to be refrigerated, it will last longer if stored in the fridge.

What is the shelf life of this syrup?

You can keep infused blends for 1-2 weeks at room temperature or up to one month in the refrigerator. Once it starts to get cloudy or discolored, it is no longer good.

    Brown Sugar Simple Syrup

    September 18, 2023 By Chandice | 2 Comments | Updated September 19, 2023

brown sugar simple syrup in a jar

This brown sugar simple syrup is a delightful balance between sweetness and rich caramel notes. Its the secret ingredient to your drinks, pancakes, and other desserts that you never knew you needed.

Made with only two ingredients in under 20 minutes, you’ll have this easy and versatile sweetener ready for mocktails, steamers, waffles, and everything in between.

Brown Sugar Simple Syrup in a glass jar

Although I love fruity syrups like this raspberry simple syrup or this peach simple syrup, the warm notes in brown sugar elevate such a wide variety of recipes. It’s very similar to our regular simple syrup just with this more caramelized sugar.

You can use it to balance out the savory flavors in instant pot carrots or top on gluten-free waffles for a caramel touch.

And of course, homemade simple syrup goes great in so many different drinks. Mocktails, teas, lattes, hot chocolate, and crockpot apple cider are just a few delicious options for this liquid sweetener.

Ordinary brown sugar doesn’t mix as well in drinks so whipping up this quick syrup is a great way to master the perfect drinks.

Why you’ll love this dark brown sugar syrup

    • It’s made with only two simple ingredients that you probably already have at home.
    • You can store it for up to a month.
    • It makes a great substitute for maple syrup.
    • You can use it in savory recipes, desserts, and drinks.
    • It only takes 20 minutes to make for an easy, homemade sweetener.

What sugar is best for simple syrup?

I like to use real brown sugar in this recipe because it gives this syrup a deep caramel flavor with notes of toffee. However, regular white sugar, raw sugar, or even coconut sugar works well in simple syrup recipes. The flavor will be different if you switch the sugar, but the important part is that you mix with equal part water.

Water being put into a glass cup

    Ingredients for brown sugar syrup

When I say this is an easy recipe, I mean it. The flavor is warm, sweet and with a subtle taste of molasses and comes from only TWO ingredients…

    • Water
    • Brown Sugar

How to make brown sugar simple syrup

    Step 1: The base

Add equal parts water and sugar to a small saucepan and whisk until the sugar dissolves.

Water being poured into a saucepan with brown sugar

    Step 2: Boil

On medium-high heat, bring the mixture to a boil and then remove from heat.

    Step 3: Steep

Let the syrup steep for 10 minutes then pour into a glass container for storage.

Brown Sugar Simple Syrup being poured into a glass

Pro tip: To avoid burning the homemade brown sugar syrup, make sure you remove the pan from heat as soon as the mixture begins to boil. Over boiling will give you a bitter flavor.

How long can I store brown sugar simple syrup?

You can store this homemade syrup in a glass container for up to 1-2 weeks at room temperature. Make sure it’s in an airtight container, mason jar, or another glass jar. Once the syrup gets cloudy, discolored, or moldy, it’s time to make a new batch.

Do you need to refrigerate simple syrup?

Although you don’t need to store this classic simple syrup in the fridge, it will last longer if you can. But again, once it changes color or gets moldy, it’s no longer good.

Brown Sugar Simple Syrup being held in a glass jar

What recipes can I enhance with this simple syrup?

    • Drizzle some of this thick brown sugar syrup on french toast bites, waffles, or gluten free pancakes for an elevated Sunday brunch.
    • Mix into cold drinks like iced tea, iced coffee, your favorite cocktails (or mocktails!).
    • Next time you make a cake, pour some syrup in between cake layers for a rich brown sugar flavor.
    • If you’re out of hot fudge, trickle this delicious brown sugar syrup over some old fashioned vanilla ice cream
    • Similar to ourย strawberry simple syrup,ย blackberry simple syrup,ย orange simple syrup,ย blueberry simple syrup, jalapeno simple syrup, lavender simple syrupย andย rose simple syrup, it is the EASIEST recipe!

    Lavender Simple Syrup

    September 18, 2023 By Chandice | 5 Comments | Updated September 18, 2023

Lavender simple syrup in a bottle

This lavender simple syrup adds a fragrant twist to Italian sodas, coffees, teas, and so much more. With three simple ingredients, you’ll have a liquid sweetener with floral notes ready to elevate a number of recipes.

While simple syrup is an easy addition to drinks, this delicious elixir doesn’t stop there. Imagine drizzling between cake layers, topping on ice cream, or adding to yogurt for just an extra touch of flavor.

Lavender Simple Syrup in a glass jar

Making this lavender syrup recipe is as easy as the summer breeze. With water, sugar, and some lavender buds, you’ll have a jar of liquid gold ready to transform your drinks and culinary creations.

If you’ve never had lavender syrup or lavender flavored food, you’re in for a real treat. Because, this syrup is not just a sweetener, it’s a fragrant adventure with fresh lavender blossoms that takes your drinks to a whole new level of refreshing and your desserts to a whole new level of sweet.

Although there are so many different ways to use homemade syrups, one of my favorite ways is in mocktails or for this one, in our lavender lemonade. Soft cocktails complete any gathering and are such an easy way to elevate a simple dinner.

You can never go wrong with a virgin strawberry mojito mocktail or a lemon mocktail as options for cold drinks in the summer.

Why you’ll love this lavender sweetener

    • It’s so easy to make with only three ingredients.
    • You can easily add it to your morning tea, coffee, or steamer for a fresh floral drink.
    • It tastes so good drizzled on pancakes, ice cream, cake, and more.
    • You can store it in the fridge for up to one month.
    • With an authentic, homemade flavor, you’ll never want to buy store bought syrup again.
    • Similar to our strawberry simple syrup, blackberry simple syrup, orange simple syrup, blueberry simple syrup, rosemary simple syrup and rose simple syrup, it is the EASIEST recipe!

    The ingredients

    • Water – A 1 to 1 ratio of water to sugar is standard for syrup recipes.
    • Sugar – Plain, white sugar works perfectly. You can also use coconut sugar.
    • Lavender buds – Organic, dried, culinary lavender buds work best. Make sure that the lavender flowers are edible.

How to make lavender simple syrup

    Step 1: The base

Add equal parts water and sugar to a small saucepan, whisk until the sugar dissolves, then add the lavender buds.

    Step 3: Strain

Pro tip: When simmering the lavender buds, it’s important to not over boil. Too much heat can lead to bitterness. To avoid this, remove from heat as soon as it reaches a boil.

What can I use lavender simple syrup for?

As I mentioned, the versatility of lavender syrup has no limits. Whether you’re crafting a subtly fragrant steamer or an irresistible lavender lemonade, this sweetener never fails to take your drink to the next level.  A lavender latte, iced tea, virgin lavender martini, or homemade lavender soda are just a few options.

But it doesn’t stop with drinks, here are a few of my favorite recipes you can drizzle lavender syrup on…

    • These gluten-free pancakes are delicious on their own, but taste even better with a hint of homemade lavender syrup.
    • If you’re a fan of overnight oats, you should try adding lavender to your next batch of bircher muesli.
    • A hint of lavender on top of this creamy gluten-free cheesecake would make the perfect summer dessert.

How long does lavender syrup last?

Storing – You can keep this floral simple syrup for 1-2 weeks at room temperature. It will last longer if kept an airtight container, glass bottle, or glass bottle. Once it starts getting cloudy, discolored, or moldy, it’s no longer good.

Refrigerating – If you can keep your homemade simple syrup in the fridge, it will last about one month. But again, once it starts to get cloudy or discolored, it’s time to make a new batch.

    Simple Syrup Recipe (Easy!)

    March 3, 2022 By Chandice | 16 Comments | Updated March 3, 2022

Simple syrup in a glass bottle with a gold lid

In just 5 minutes you can have this classic simple syrup recipe. It is perfect for making mocktails or adding some moistness to baked goods!

The simplicity of simple syrup makes it one of the best recipes. It has many uses and can easily be used as is or imparted with flavors like lavender, orange and strawberry.

Simple Syrup Recipe in a glass jar with gold lid

This sweetener is simple but perfectly sweet. It’s a great addition to cocktail recipes, mocktails, iced coffee, and even baked treats! I love adding this rich syrup to these mocktail recipes…

    • Candy Cane Christmas Mocktails
    • Virgin Margarita Mocktail
    • Fresh Raspberry Mocktail
    • Non-alcoholic Gin and Tonic
    • Virgin Strawberry Margarita

Simple syrup is also a great topping on my gluten-free rhubarb crisp with peaches. It’s a great substitute for maple syrup or honey syrups on sweet treats.

Honestly, this syrup tastes great in any hot or cold drinks! Iced tea, hot chocolate, iced coffee, cold brew, and even lemonade! It’s such great way to sweeten drinks because all it takes is a couple tablespoons.

What is simple syrup made of?

This simple syrup recipe is made from two basic ingredients you probably already have! One part sugar and one part water, that’s it! There is equal parts water to sugar so it’s super easy to make a double batch or half batch.

This recipe calls for white sugar and I wouldn’t recommend substituting for brown sugar or an artificial sweetener. You won’t get the same result or the same taste.

However, we have a GREAT Brown Sugar Simple Syrup recipe that has a more caramel flavor which I love for fall drinks especially.

Simple Syrup Recipe being made with sugar being poured into a pot

Can you make flavored simple syrups?

Yes! It’s actually super easy to make flavored syrups. I like adding flavored syrups to fun flavored mocktails! Here are a few of my favorite flavored simple syrup recipes…

    • Peach simple syrup
    • Orange simple syrup
    • Lavender simple syrup
    • Strawberry simple syrup
    • Raspberry Simple Syrup
    • Rose Simple Syrup
    • Blueberry Simple Syrup
    • Blackberry Simple Syrup
    • Rosemary Simple Syrup
    • Jalapeno Simple Syrup

What can be substituted for simple syrup?

There are a bunch of different sweeteners that can be substituted for simple syrup. Swap out maple syrup or honey syrup for this sugar water in coffees and other cold beverages.

Use this simple syrup to sweeten easy recipes or even drizzle on gluten-free pancakes!

Simple Syrup Recipe being made with water being poured in

Is simple syrup the same as liquid sugar?

Simple syrup is the same thing as liquid sugar. Sugar syrup is made with an equal ratio of sugar to water which allows it to easily dissolve in drinks. It’s a must for any home bartender as it’s needed for almost any type of cocktail or mocktail!

What you need to make it

    Sugar

One cup sugar is perfect for this old fashioned simple syrup recipe. To keep this recipe simple, white or cane sugar works best.

    Water

One cup water cooked with one cup of sugar is the perfect ratio for this rich simple syrup! Doesn’t get any easier than that.

Simple Syrup Recipe being made in a pot with wooden spoon

    How to make it

Making rich syrup is surprisingly easy! All you have to do it whisk together equal parts water and sugar then boil. Sugar dissolves easily into hot water so another key step is allowing the sugar water to cool.

How do you store simple syrup?

You can store simple syrups in a mason jar, glass bottle, or another airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Your simple syrup will last up to 2 weeks at room temperature or 1 month refrigerated.  Once it starts to get cloudy or discolored, it is no longer good.

Strawberry Simple Syrup in a glass jar

Our 3-ingredient strawberry simple syrup is perfect for mocktails and drinks as well as for adding flavor to and making cakes more moist!

Strawberry Simple Syrup in a glass jar

I love the fresh summer flavor of this sweet strawberry simple syrup. While I love adding a bit to my favorite strawberry mocktail like in this Valentines mocktails roundup, it’s also great for a fruity splash in our classic non-alcoholic gin and tonic.

I even love to combine it with some club soda, ice, cream our rose simple syrup for a fruity and floral flavored Italian soda. Or you can add it to steamed milk for a comforting, 2-ingredient drink.

Add some rosemary simple syrup for an herbal sweet infusion… Or, go full desert with a drizzle over this no bake strawberry pie!

It’s also great for making cake layers more moist like in this delicious strawberry cake recipe from my friend Liz at Sugar Geek Show.

    Strawberry Lemonade

Who doesn’t love a good strawberry lemonade right? It is so easy to combine this recipe with blackberry simple syrup in our blackberry lemonade recipe or just swap it out entirely for a refreshing and super easy summer drink!

And if you want to get uber easy, just add a bit to store bought lemonade. Costco has a great bottled one that I love. This strawberry coulis can also be added for more texture and flavor.

    Fresh or Frozen Strawberries

This recipe can be used with either fresh or frozen strawberries. I do personally love using fresh but frozen works just as well and it is much easier if you are making it during the winter months.

These other recipes can also be made with fresh or frozen fruitโ€ฆ

    Blackberry Simple Syrup

    March 31, 2021 By Chandice | 2 Comments | Updated March 3, 2022

Blackberry Simple Syrup in a glass bottle with berries around

This blackberry simple syrup, is so versatile! It is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. It only takes a few minutes to make and can be used for mocktails and drinks as well as cakes and dessert.

Blackberry Simple Syrup in a glass bottle with berries around

I love how fresh and fruity this simple syrup is. It is perfect for making blackberry lemonade with sage. It is also fun to make blackberry jalapeรฑo lemonade using it and our jalapeรฑo simple syrup.

I first had it years ago at Melting Pot and fell in love. I couldn’t believe a drink could have so much flavor! I knew I had to recreate it at home.

While I started by making it with store bought syrup, I found that it really only took a few extra minutes to get a fresher version with this homemade blackberry syrup.

I also love adding it to our non-alcoholic mimosa mocktail and non-alcoholic gin and tonic for a bit of sweetness and a touch of fruity/tartness.

    Fresh or Frozen Blackberries

This tasty blackberry syrup recipe can be used with either fresh or frozen blackberries. I do personally love using fresh organic blackberries but frozen works just as well and it is much easier if you are making it during the winter months.

These other syrup recipes can also be made with fresh or frozen fruit…

    • Raspberry Simple Syrup
    • Blueberry Simple Syrup
    • Strawberry Simple Syrup
    • Peach Simple Syrup
    • Orange Simple Syrup

    Ingredients you will need

With just few simple ingredients and a couple of minutes, you can make this delicious simple syrup recipe that is sweet with just a hint of tart fruit.

    We use the following ingredientsโ€ฆ

    • Water
    • Sugar (I like organic sugar)
    • Fresh Blackberries

Yep, thatโ€™s it! Itโ€™s really more simple than you think. The water and sugar should always be equal parts, but if you want thicker syrup you can use less water. The fruit is usually 1.5X the water and sugar you use.

    How to make it

    • Add 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar to a medium saucepan and whisk well until the sugar dissolves
    • Add 1 1/2 cups of fresh blackberries
    • Bring to a boil (medium-high heat) whisking occasionally then remove from heat and let steep for 45 minutes
    • Pour syrup through a fine-mesh sieve or strainer into a glass jar or large bowl, making sure to push down the pulp as you strain
Blackberries being poured into a strainer

What do you use simple syrup for?

Simple syrup like this and our rosemary simple syrup or brown sugar simple syrup are so versatile. They can be used in so many things!

    • Brushing on cakes
    • Drizzling on ice cream
    • To make mocktails
    • Added to lemonade
    • As a flavoring in hot chocolate
    • Flavoring for steamers
    • Added to club soda and cream and served in a mason jar to make italian sodas

    and so much more!

    Blackberries in a strainer

How do you use it in and on cakes?

Simple syrup makes cake extra moist, especially when doing a layer cake. Simply brush it onto the top of each cake layer before frosting.

You can easily add it to our eggnog cake for a bit of fruity blackberry flavor. For a 12 inch cake, you will use roughly 1/4 cup simple syrup.

    How do you store it?

Simple syrup can be stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator, whichever you prefer. You can use an airtight container (glass or plastic), just be sure the simple syrup is cooled before pouring in if you are going to use plastic.

This fruit syrup has a shorter shelf life, but you can keep it for 1-2 weeks at room temperature or about 1 month in the refrigerator. Once it starts to get cloudy, discolored or moldy, it is no longer good.

2-Ingredient Orange Simple Syrup in 10 Minutes

    March 23, 2021 By Chandice | 2 Comments | Updated January 5, 2025

2-Ingredient Orange Simple Syrup in a jar

2-ingredient orange simple syrup adds a citrusy sweet touch to any drink, baked goods or even frosting! Plus it only requires 10 minutes. It is the perfect fresh splash to take your drink hour and desserts to the next level…

Orange Simple Syrup in a glass jar

You can prepare it for a quick, citrusy drink or mocktail. Might I recommend a splash in our ourย 5-minute spiced orange mocktail or Shirley temple mocktail? Then save some for making that chocolate orange cake extra moist.

This sweetener is tart and fruity. It is a great addition to anything you are making, baking or drinking. I especially love to add it to these mocktailsโ€ฆ

    • Non-alcoholic mimosa mocktail
    • Prosecco drink
    • Blackberry lemonade
    • Non-alcoholic gin and tonic
    • Lavender lemonade
    • Grapefruit mocktail

It’s also a lovely touch when splashed into our Thanksgiving mocktails or crockpot apple cider and is the perfect way to add flavor to ice cream. I’ve even used it on french toast in place of boring old maple syrup. It’s also great added to our chocolate orange cookies.

Another interesting use for this homemade orange syrup is in an orange vinaigrette salad dressing. Normally you would use orange juice or orange zest, but using this syrup would give it some extra flair. And if you love citrus, this tangerine posset is a great dessert.

Water added to sugar in a pot

    Can I use any sugar?

Any sugar can be used for this orange simple syrup recipe. From plain white sugar to cane sugar to coconut sugar and date sugar to raw sugar, they all work great!

You can even give this recipe a go using our brown sugar simple syrup instructions for a bit more of a warm caramel flavor. Or get floral and fruity by combining it with our rose simple syrup! You can even give pomelo simple syrup a try with this same recipe. What is a pomelo you say? This will help.

    What ingredients you will need

With just few things and a couple of minutes, you can make this delicious and fresh sweetener with just a hint of citrus.

    We use the following ingredientsโ€ฆ

    • Water
    • Sugar
    • Fresh orange

    How to make it

    • Add 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar to a medium saucepan and whisk well until sugar dissolves.
    • Add 1 fresh sliced orange, no need to remove the orange peels or the white pith
Oranges being put into a pot
    • Bring to a gentle boil on medium-high heat, whisking occasionally then remove from heat and let steep for 45 minutes
    • Pour syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a glass bottle, making sure to push down the fruit as you strain
    • Let the mixture cool before using or storing your bottle of orange simple syrup
Orange Simple Syrup being poured into a strainer

And that’s it! Equal parts sugar and water with some oranges, a super easy way to make your own simple syrup at home. It’s great when added to all kinds of desserts even healthy ones like this Ninja Cream orange Julius protein ice cream.

What type of oranges should I use?

Any orange from the grocery store works great but cara cara are one of my favorites. Blood oranges are much more rich in color and provide a bit of different orange flavor. Valencia and Jaffa also work great!

    How do you store it?

It can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator, whichever you prefer. You can use a glass or plastic container just be sure it is cooled before pouring if you are going to use plastic.

Does it need to be refrigerated?

Simple syrup does not need to be refrigerated. It handles well at room temperature.

Orange Simple Syrup fruit segments in a strainer

How long do infused blends last?

You can keep infused blends like our rosemary simple syrup for 1-2 weeks at room temperature or 3 weeks to a 1 month in the refrigerator. Once it starts to get cloudy or discolored, it is no longer good.

    Rosemary Simple Syrup

    March 1, 2021 By Chandice | 1 Comment | Updated March 3, 2022

Rosemary Simple Syrup in a glass jar

I love using this herbal sweetener for mocktails and herbal teas. It is also great to add a lovely herbal touch to lemon or vanilla cake.

This herbal infusion adds a bit of sweetness with a fresh touch to anything you want to add it to.

Rosemary Simple Syrup in a glass jar

If you want to give any of these mocktails a little savory bite, this sweetener or our jalapeรฑo simple syrup is the perfect way to do it. The fruit and rosemary especially go great together in our Grapefruit mocktail.

    • Non-alcoholic mimosa mocktail
    • Prosecco drink
    • Blackberry lemonade
    • Non-alcoholic gin and tonic
    • Lavender lemonade

You can also make a rosemary steamer by adding a tablespoon to large glass of warm milk.

    Can I use any sugar?

Any sugar can be used for this recipe. From cane sugar to coconut sugar and date sugar to raw sugar, they all work great!

You can even give this recipe a go using our brown sugar simple syrup instructions for a bit more of a warm caramel flavor. Or get floral and herby by combining it with our rose simple syrup!

Does it matter what kind of water I use?

Not at all. Tap water or filtered work equally as well. Just donโ€™t use any carbonated water like club soda or seltzer.
